Information engineering degree

We offer a information engineering degree at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. Find Alternative Bachelors. Overview Programme outline.

The Bachelor of Engineering in Information Engineering Technology Program is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC) of ABET, www.abet.org. Accreditation is proof that the quality of an academic program meets the standards of the profession
The curriculum of the Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Information Engineering Technology is designed for those students who intend to launch a career in the design, installation, maintenance, and repair of computing technologies.  Coursework in the program is practice-orientated and prepares students to work in a variety of computer-intensive environments, such as technical organizations, small or large businesses, product design or manufacturing companies, and data-directed services. The breadth of training in hardware, software, troubleshooting equipment, and other computer tools will enable the graduate to work in a variety of roles in such environments as software, network, database, and web designer. Additionally, the graduate will have the ability to work as network manager and administrator, project manager, applications developer, test and integration manager and technologist in business applications.  The graduate of this curriculum will be versed in mathematics, physics, computer science, and business fundamentals, giving him/her the fundamental knowledge for further graduate studies in Information Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Telecommunication Systems.
The program objectives are the following:
  1. Graduates will be situated in growing careers involving design, development and support of Information Technology Systems.
  2. Graduates will perform effectively individually and in teams.
  3. Graduates will have demonstrated involvement in high technical and leadership roles.
  4. Graduates will have accumulated technical expertise to remain globally competitive.
Completion of this program should result in the following student learning outcomes (ABET ETAC Criteria 2019-2020 Accreditation Cycle):
  1. An ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
  2. An ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
  3. An ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
  4. An ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes;
  5. An ability to function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams.
The international Bachelor programme (B.Sc.) Information Engineering offered by the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences which is completely taught in English enables you to understand, specify, design and maintain such systems and to further specialize in the disciplines involved.
The programme which has been accredited by ASIIN is seven semesters in length, with a large part of the curriculum dedicated to practical experience in the form of lab work, student projects and a semester in industry.
A broad interest in technology and technical systems in general is a good prerequisite for the “BSc Information Engineering” program and the professional world of engineers, such as an affection for mathematical and physical problems and programming and creating solutions by software and understanding and shaping the electronic aspects of today’s technology. Also, passion and endurance for solving complex tasks and rational and independent thinking are useful.

Career fields

  • Complex systems that process various kinds of information can be found in many business and industrial sectors. In automotive systems, electronic control units determine from output of sensors the current stability state of the car and derive counter-measures in critical situations.
  • User interfaces with touch panels, read user inputs and control machines in automation industry. Autonomous vehicles in automated warehouses make use of various sensor signals to find the right shelf.
  • Smart cameras check the quality of produced parts and goods, and wireless communication systems allow mobile devices to deliver location-based services.
